KCS F units "under wire" |
Description: |
Four powered cab units and a couple of slugs head this KCS train which is picking up empty coal cars (after dropping off loaded ones) at the Texas Utilities Company (TXU) electric railroad interchange a few miles west of Pittsburg on the line to Shreveport. They will head west about 35 miles to drop off the cars at the lignite coal mine at Thermo, then tie up at the station in Sulphur Springs. The electric line heads north to the generating plant at Monticello and also interchanges with the ex-Cotton Belt near Winfield. |

MKT freight |
Description: |
It looks like all GP40 units headed east between Houston and Katy. Today all of this is gone. UP abandoned this portion of the Katy. I-10 expansion covers the right-of-way and the fields in the background are solid shopping centers, subdivisions and concrete. UP kept the line from the town of Katy to the west (Katy is where the rice elevators are in the far background). |
